Bobbi Gibb Sculpture Project

Bobbi Gibb, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon in 1966 and recognized by the Boston Athletic Association as the Pre-Sanctioned Era womens' winner in 1966, 1967, and 1968, was commissioned in 2016 by the 26.2 Foundation to create a statue of herself running, in her first year, to honor all the women who ran between 1966 and 1971. Unveiled in October 2021, the statue will be erected near the Marathon starting line in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
